Dear Friends of Globond,
This is Tashka Yawanawa, and it took a little time for me to write because I felt a bit inhibited to write to a public that I consider very special and I did not find the words to say or the subject to write, because we live in a reality completely different from most of you that live in North America. I decided to write in my own way, so I am going to tell you things the way we say them here, as if were speaking to another person in the village where we are.
First, I would like to thank the initiative and persistence of Kirstin in asking me to write. Ok, so let's go. December is a time of a lot of rain here in the Brazilian Amazon. It is a time to hunt and eat fresh fruits in the forest. The river is good for navigating the boat, but on the other hand we get rained on on every trip. Here it is like that, it rains for 6 months in the winter and for 6 months we go without rain in the summer. 3 weeks ago, we were implementing a semi-artesian well in each village. I got amazed, seeing water spring from the ground without any type of machine that we need to get outside of the village. Consuming potable water for our people will enable us to be healthier and to minimize the problem of diarrhea that always happens in the rainy season.
Presently, we are working on our Yawanawa Designs made by Yawanawa women in their last art class and known as Yawanawá, which happened last month in the Village of Mutum--The Indian Territory of the Gregório River. The women worked to pass on their knowledge of the art of Yawanawa designs into fabrics. Our idea is to transform these Yawanawá designs into in the Fourth Collection of the Yawanawa Brand in 2008 (Globond has made an agreement with the Yawanawá and now has the exclusive right to represent and market this exclusive fashion line). I am working also on the edition of sacred songs of the Yawanawá medicine women. We want to produce a CD of sacred Yawanawá songs that had been lost, but were recovered through fasting and religious ceremonies realized by the Yawanawá women during a year of isolation in the forest doing ceremonies and spiritual work. These are very strong and inspiring songs. Well, I have many things to share with you all, but to begin, this here is a good beginning.

Caros amigos de Globond,
Aqui é o Tashka Yawanawa, me tomou um pouco de tempo para escrever, porque me sentia um pouco inibido de escrever para um público que considero muito especial e não achava as palavras certas para dizer ou assunto pra falar, pois vivemos numa realidade completamente diferente de muitos vocês que vivem na América do Norte. Então, vou escrever do meu jeito mesmo, vou contando as coisa como a gente fala por aqui mesmo, como se eu estivesse falando para um outra pessoa de outra aldeia de como estamos.
Primeiro, gostaria de agradeçer o incentivo e insistência de Kirstin para me escrever. Então, vamos lá. Dezembro é uma época de muita chuva aqui pela Amazônia brasileira. Época boa para caçar e comer frutas frescas na mata. O Rio fica bom pra navegar de barco, em compessação a gente pega muita chuva durante qualquer viagem. Aqui é assim, chove durante seis meses (época do inverno) e seis meses ficamos sem chuva (época do verão). Ha 3 semanas atrás, estavamos implantando o sistema de poço semi-artesiano em cada aldeia. Fiquei completamente maravilhado, vendo jorrar água da terra sem utilizar nenhum tipo de mecanismo que dependa de fora da aldeia. Consumindo água potável, nosso povo poderá ter uma saúde muito melhor e amenizar o problema de diarréia que sempre acontece na época chuvosa.
Atualmente, estamos trabalhando nos desenhos Yawanawá feito pelas mulheres Yawanawá na última oficina de arte e conhecimento Yawanawá, que aconteceu no mês passado na aldeia do Mutum –Terra Indígena do Rio Gregório. As mulheres trabalharam repassando o conhecimento da arte dos desenhos Yawanawá em tecidos. A nossa idéia é transformar estes desenhos na IV Coleção da grife Yawanawá para o próximo ano de 2008. (A Globond fez um acordo com os Yawamaná e tem o direito exclusivo de representação e comercialização desta linha exclusiva). Estou trabalhando também na edição dos cantos sagrados das mulheres pajés Yawanawá. Queremos produzir um CD de cantos sagrados Yawanawá que se haviam perdidos, mais foram recuperados através da dieta e cerimônias realizadas pelas mulheres Yawanawá durante 1 ano isolado na floresta fazendo cerimônias e trabalhos espirituais. São cantos muitos fortes e inspiradores. Bom, tenho muito mais coisas para poder compartilhar com vocês, mais para começar isto por aqui é um bom começo.
