Globonders and Friends spend 5 minutes to help save the Amazon
Sat, 04/19/2008 - 03:38 — globond
Hello Globonders and Friends,
If you are reading this it means that you are either a Globonder or a Friend of Globond; you are therefore getting a special, exclusive, one-of-a-kind opportunity to take part in the collaboration between Globonders in the heart of the Amazon forest and Globonders in the industrial world. You do not have to look far to see that the decimation of the Rain Forest has lead to the rupture of our eco-system, the deterioration of our air quality, and the real and serious threat to our health and our very sustenance of life.
Most of you and your organizations are now talking about the survival of the planet, sustainability and "being green". However, you may not have thought about the fact that one of the ways we can move into the future is to look into "the past" and its cultures that until now have been left out of the digital, global economy. It is these lands, and their people which hold the key to the future of all of us.
As globally connected, globally impacting individuals and/or businesses (Globonders), it becomes our responsibility to make the most effective and decisive moves to secure the future of our planet. We have outlined a plan, and have made it easy for you, our trusted members, partners and friends to join us.
We are working with Chief Tashka Yawanawa (and other indigenous leaders who care for the Rain Forest), as well as David Hircock (Chief Scientific Advisor to Aveda and Estee Lauder), clothing designers, organic manufacturers, and a very concerned and motivated R&B girl band (girls ages 10-12), to save 200K hectares of Rain Forest from decimation. This means that we are stopping the release of 40M tons of carbon into the environment, and preserving the annual absorption of 1M tons. And this is just the beginning of our mission.
Even if you are the CEO of a corporation, a government leader, former rock star or A-List actor (all of which are included in this recipient list), you can and should take the time to do something small today which will have a big impact on the immediate tomorrow. You can do this by buying the $0.99 download of a song, a $100 limited edition t-shirt or tickets to a State of the Amazon dinner. To be specific, Globond is proud to announce a joint venture called VOW (Voice of the World, LLC), which is a partnership with indigenous Globonders. VOW's first product launches are Yawanawa lines of fashion and music in collaboration with Globonders Chief Tashka and Laura Yawanawa of the Brazilian Yawanawa Tribe in the Amazon. They will be in NYC at the end of this month to launch the National Documentary film that the Chief did with actor Joaquin Phoenix and to attend the 2008 UN Meeting of Indigenous Leaders.
We will use this momentous occasion to do a pre-launch of a clothing line based on body paintings and dream art of the Yawanawa People, and of the new VOW Record label. Chief Tashka got inspired by the girl R&B band Shabling, made up of 4 girls between the ages of 10 and 12. Lead singer Katie Painter, whose mother Tesina is a Globonder, had written a song called "I Can Help" (save the Rain Forest) 4 years ago when she was only 7. Chief Tashka got so inspired by her beautiful voice that he invited her band to sing for him in NYC this month. Shabling took this to next level by writing, performing and producing the song "Voice of the Forest" in less than three weeks time; this song is now available for download, along with 1000 limited edition t-shirts featuring one of the Yawanawa bodypaint design.
You can find these, as well as tickets to a private dinner on April 30 with Chief Tashka who will give Globonders and Friends his State of the Amazon address. If you buy a t-shirt on the VOW LLC website and go to the dinner, Chief Tashka will autograph it for you at the event. For more details and questions, please call Kirstin (+1 857 222 9343).
Thanks,
Globond and VOW Teams

About the Face and Body Paint of the Yawanawa
This week, we are working on material produced during last week's art class and known as "Yawanawa", which took place in the village of Mutum in the indigenous region of the Gregório River, from November 10-15, 2007.
Today, we began to look at all of the material produced during the class, and upon touching the paintings, one could feel the energy left there by the women. I am passionate about Yawanawa Art, principally because of the face and body paintings. When I am painted, I feel the energy flowing from the pores of my skin, the force of tradition from the ancestral expression of the Yawanawá people.
From time immemorial, the Yawanawá people have used facial and body painting as an expression of beauty and health. The designs that we use have a meaning, when someone is painting another person, she is not only seeing the person but she is painting in agreement with their personality and their energy.
Using red colors (from the Urucrum seed) the black (resin from the sepa, a tree which produces a black resin)we paint each other. To be painted by another person is a demonstration of love endearment and respect.
In past times, our people painted themselves before going to war, the painting made our warriors lose their fear of fighting and they felt protected by the paintings. Presently, our paintings serve as our clothing and protects us from the "evil spirits”.
Various paintings were done in cotton fabric, each painting is a work of art that expressed the cosmologic world of the Yawanawa, of nature, of spirits of animals and of being human.
We are working with Globond to make a new collection of clothing with Yawanawá motives and the Yawanawá brand. With this, we want to promote the Yawanawá brand through the commercialization of clothing, painted accessories, launching into the market products which identify our indigenous culture, with market appeal vindicating our styles, across a mix of interaction of of different products and pieces, having their social, cultural and environmental references, turning them into financial resources for the maintenance and self-development of the Yawanawá community.
And so we continue here working to unite the traditional with the new.
Until the next time...Tashka

Building a better world together

There are many good causes in the world to support, many different ways in which we can make a difference, individually or in a group. We want Globonders to tell us which ones they want us to support and we will get our people and other resources behind them; we will also put the information up on this part of the website to make it easy for Globonders and Friends to learn about the problems and to become part of the solution. Right now however, we have a Globonder named Susan Gross (aka Mother Madrigal)
